Pipeline Volleyball coaches girls in middle school: 12U, 13U and 14U (you may also see U12, U13 and U14, or 12s, 13s and 14s). These are the years when habits are set. Coach Lea reviews film of your daughter herself and tells you what to fix first, how, and what to practice at home.

The age groups, in plain terms
| Club age group | Usual grade | Girls' net height |
|---|---|---|
| 12U (12 and under) | 6th grade | 7'0" |
| 13U (13 and under) | 7th grade | 7'4 1/8" |
| 14U (14 and under) | 8th grade | 7'4 1/8" |
Grades are the usual case, not a rule. Club divisions go by birthdate with a July 1 cut-off.
What matters most at 12U, 13U and 14U
- Ball control first. A steady passing platform and clean serve receive decide playing time at this age more than anything else.
- A serve she can repeat. A consistent overhand serve, with the same toss and contact every time, before chasing power.
- The approach and arm swing. Footwork and timing learned now are far easier than habits fixed later.
- Moving before the ball arrives. Ready position, first step and getting to the ball balanced.
- Every position, not one. Middle school is early to specialize. Players who pass, set and hit understand the game better later.
The mental side. Coach Lea builds trust first and corrects without yelling, so a player can hear a hard correction and use it. Read Bond to Battle: how we coach the whole player.
How online coaching works at this age
- Film a short clip on a phone. One skill, 5 to 10 reps, whole body in frame. Serving and hitting from the side; passing from the front or at an angle. A phone on a tripod or propped on a bag is enough. How to film a clip.
- Coach Lea watches it herself. For a $40 Quick Check she emails the one thing to fix, how to fix it and a drill to start on, within 48 hours of payment.
- Go further with live lessons. A 1-on-1 video session is $60 for 30 minutes or $90 for an hour. Monthly plans save 15%.
A parent or guardian sets everything up for an athlete under 18. This works alongside her school or club team, not instead of it: the team gives her games and reps, and we give her individual detail.
Is she behind if she starts now?
No. Middle school is when most school teams start, and many college players did not play club before then. What matters is learning sound technique early, so she is not unlearning habits at 15.
Recruiting is not the job at this age. Getting better is. If you are curious where the path leads, the recruiting timeline shows what happens in each high school year.
