An honest comparison
Search "volleyball AI" and you'll find apps that score a clip in seconds. Some are good at what they do. Here's what each option gives you, and where a real coach still matters.
| Stat-tracking app | AI technique analysis | Coach Lea's Quick Check | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you get back | Stats and tagged clips | A score, a list of flagged errors, sometimes a template fix | A coach's read: which error is yours, why, and what to do about it |
| Who's looking | Nobody — software counts touches | A model trained on other players' video | Coach Lea, who has coached 17 years and played the position |
| Context | None | The clip only | Your athlete's age, level, position, goals and what you told her |
| Follow-up | None | Usually none | One follow-up reply included; a session if the fix needs live work |
| Speed | Minutes | Seconds to minutes | Within 48 hours |
| Price | Monthly subscription | Free to subscription | $40 per clip, no subscription |
| Best for | Teams logging a season | Curious players who want a quick number | Families who want to know what to fix next, and that it's right |
We don't name products here on purpose. The categories are what matter, and tools change monthly.
Where apps and AI help
Software is good at the tedious part: tagging every touch, counting reps, measuring jump height, flagging that a hitter contacted the ball behind her head on 14 of 19 swings.
That's real information. If your team needs season stats or your athlete wants a number to beat, an app earns its subscription.
Where a coach is still the answer
Late approach. Toss drift. Dropped elbow. Fear of the block. A set that's too tight. Jumping early. An app sees the symptom. A coach sees which one is yours, because she's fixed all six.
Coach Lea also knows your athlete is 14, plays right side, switched from soccer last year, and has a tryout in three weeks. The fix she sends is the one that fits that player, this month.
